Exhibition of printmaking "Photographic Images and Matter: Japanese Prints of the 1970s" in cooperation with The Embassy of Japan in Estonia and The Japan Foundation, is opened in Film Museum from 21 June. 

Awarded the International Grand Prize of the International Biennial Exhibition of Prints in Tokyo at the end of 1968, Tetsuya Noda’s works started a trend in the 70s where numerous graphic works were based on photographs. The concept of print was dramatically expanded by the 1970s where artists expressed themselves through the use of photographic images and matter, which exerted a strong influence on contemporary art. While featuring the development of the medium of printmaking during the 1970s, this exhibition focuses on print-inspired trends of the same period.

Exhibiting artists: Tetsuya Noda, Kosuke Kimura, Akira Matsumoto, Satoshi Saito, Hideki Kimura, Sakumi Hagiwara, Jiro Takamatsu, Katsuro Yoshida, Koji Enokura, Shoichi East, Tatsuo Kawaguchi, Lee Ufan, Mitsuo Kano, Arinori Ichihara

The exhibition will run through to the 2 September. Entrance is free.
