THE ESTONIAN FILM MUSEUM COLLECTING INFORMATION AND PHOTOGRAPHS ON FILM MEMORABILIA

Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, the Estonian Film Museum will be opening its doors at Maarjamäe in October 2017.

The Film Museum’s first permanent exhibition “Take ONE” will thoroughly dissect the process of filmmaking, and share the secrets of filmmaking and filmmakers.

As we know, the last stage in making a film includes post-production, marketing and everything that helps the art of film reach different target audiences. Collecting memorabilia tends to be the exception rather than the rule in the case of Estonian films, having only become more popular in the past ten years thanks to Lotte, one of the best-known cartoon characters in Estonia.

Most parents in Estonia have probably experienced their children begging them to buy yet another Lotte treat, lemonade or stuffed toy, and in the Soviet past hundreds of thousands men pinned pictures of the blonde film diva Eve Kivi on the wall over their beds. And perhaps some will remember how in the 1990s, it was possible to use a phone card with an image of Hannes Kaljujärv’s character Rummu Jüri in public phone booths? In addition to Estonian films, people might also remember the memorabilia from Hollywood blockbusters (light sabres from Star Wars, Batman watches etc.), coveted also by cinema audiences in Soviet Estonia.

The Estonian Film Museum is seeking everyone’s help to find film memorabilia from famous films both local and international. We are expecting PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIAL related to the memorabilia (if necessary, the museum will come and help take the photographs). Photographs of the coolest memorabilia will be exhibited at the Film Museum’s new exhibition, “Take ONE”.
